About Me

creating a business plan for a start-up

Having worked at the same company for fifteen years, I pictured myself farther along than I was the day that I quit. Why did I quit? Well, I quit because I was constantly being passed up for promotions as they were given to newer, younger employees. I finally had enough, quit my job and started a business of my own. How did I do that without going bankrupt in the process? I had a plan! I took a long time to plan the exit strategy as well as how I was going to start a successful business without losing everything.

Ways That You Can Reduce Funeral Expenses

Funerals are a very difficult experience for many and they can also be a very expensive experience. However, there are many decisions that may seem insignificant, but can have a large impact on how much the funeral will cost.

Have The Wake On The Same Day

If you plan the wake to occur on the same day as the funeral, you will reduce costs. You are paying by the hour, so limiting the funeral to one day is essential. By having the viewing the night before and burying the next day, you will be paying for extra time.

Don't Embalm

Embalming may or may not be necessary depending on how soon you will be cremating the body. Therefore, you may be able to save a few hundred dollars if you bury or cremate shortly after the individual's death. A less expensive alternative to embalming is to have the body refrigerated. This allows you to delay the funeral and make arrangements.

Have The Destination Funeral Home Handle Transportation

When your loved one passes away out of state or out of the country, it can be more expensive to hold a funeral because you may need to pay the retail costs for both funeral homes. However, you can avoid this by allow the destination funeral home to act as primary coordinator.

Eliminate The Casket

One of the most common reasons for overspending is that loved ones spend for emotional reasons. Loved ones are spending during a time when they are grief-stricken and vulnerable. It is important to decide whether you would like a viewing or not. There are many loved ones who do not actually want a viewing, but they choose to have a viewing because it is the custom. However, it is much less expensive to have a direct burial or a direct cremation. These options eliminate the casket. For example, with a direct burial, the deceased is buried in a simple and inexpensive container. In extreme cases where there is no one who can afford the cremation or burial, the city will sometimes pay for a direct burial or cremation.

Save Money On A Casket

If you do choose to purchase a casket, make sure to request that you see the lower-priced caskets in addition to the more expensive ones. Funeral homes like Hitzeman Funeral Home, Ltd will often want to highlight the caskets they are the most proud of, but will usually have other options for those who want to use a casket, but cannot afford to spend thousands of dollars.
